My rpm gauge hasn't worked since I bought the truck. (85 f250 6.9). The tach sensor wires were showing so I replaced the sensor. Now the rpms will go up but will not come back down. Haven't had a chance to dig deep yet. Just seein if anyone had a similar issue?
I almost wonder if the shaft in the tach assembly itself is sticky from years of not moving.
Mine will not read above 2500 and sometimes sticks there if I take the engine much higher then that. In my case however I suspect an internal electrical fault with the tach itself. I'm not sure if its fixable and didn't have time to troubleshoot the PCB on the back of it.
