Engine cutting out

Engine cutting out

Tach works when first cranked up. Tach works going down the road until you let off pedel then it falls to zero until you push pedel again. Sometimes going highway speed tach falls back for just a second and engine cuts out for a second. Any suggestions

The only way an IDI could cut out electrically is if the power to the FSS is interrupted. So your tach problem coupled with the cut out would lead me to check connections and ignition switch.

Check the wires and connector comming out of the tach sensor.
Located on the IP drive gear housing.

Cracked insulation on the tach sensor wires let moisture and oil into the sensor, which means it is about to die.

Look right where the wires come out of the sensor for cracks in the insulation.
