not to high-jack the thread or anything but i have a question about regen's... If im driving and i get the "cleaning exhaust filter" message and after a minute or two i have to stop briefly (like a red light) does it continue to regen or does it stop if the truck slows below a certain speed or the EGT's go below a certain temp? If it does stop i assume will it resume once i get moving again? I guess i've wondered what causes it to stop "regening" other than shutting the truck off or it being able to do a complete regen...
Painted horse, thank you much for that info. You have described how I drive on a regular basis perfectly and I have active regens very rarely, usually when I unhook from the trailer and run a couple errands. So, I know exactly what you're talking about.
Baja, you really don't need to modify your driving habits to make the truck happy, just drive it and enjoy. If you do get the "drive to clean" message, then you do need to remain on the road and take care of that.
I needed know also because that is how I am and my truck stays in regen parked or moving. When I place her in park, then it quits. Even stays on in nuetral. If I watch the soot level on my Edge, it will very slowly go down idling in nuetral. My guess is I would would have to idle for days for it to clean. EGTs have to be above 600 in the DPF for soot burnoff to happen. I can raise the EGTs by idling around 1200 enough to burn off soot as well as driving, but the hotter the filter gets, the faster it burns off soot and the best, but not the only way, is to drive around, the higher the RPMs, the faster the soot comes off. I have not done the high idle mod, but I might to see if I can to a cleaning from start to finish by idling in nuetral. Not really the safest thing to do, cant imagine what damage a loose beast idling high would do to the nieghborhood.
Well, the chances of a parking brake failing are pretty thin, but a wheel chock would be a good idea.
I put my truck in "D" once, set the brake, got out and let it idle wondering if the active regen would keep going. One of those times when it starts right when you get home. I stood by the motor and listened, sure sounded like it was doing something but they say it won't clean below 35mph or something like that.
I should try that since I have the CTS.
I think prior to the 400/800 flash, the regen would seem to stop at a traffic light but I noticed later on it didn't.
Had to be a flash but no proof.
Edit: try leaving it in Drive and set park brake that is.

As long as you don't put it in "Park" for more than a few seconds, it'll stay active waiting for the right conditions (RPM etc..) to continue cleaning.

All I can say is that it sure seemed like it was still doing its active cleaning when I let it sit. Sounded and smelled like it and I think I could tell when it quit. I should do it again just to be sure.
Mine still makes a clicking noise for awhile in park but the CTS reports the AR is turned off.
I'll see if the red light on the CTS stays on.
Haven't driven my truck in a week and it will be due for an AR in the next few days when I get home.

cool, thanks for the info guys! I was just curious what it does when i briefly stop or something...
