Regen question
Regen question
How long does regen last? Mine goes into regen(cleaning exhaust filter) for 2 seconds several times a day. I had a sensor replaced last week and experienced a regen that lasted 20 min. Since then it's back to lasting 2 seconds...at least that's how long it's displayed on my dash. Do I have a issue? Please help
The message on the dash only stays for a few seconds but the regen process is still going on. Typically the regen process will last from 10-20 mins, depending on driving conditions/exhaust temps.
With alot of intown driving you will experience alot more regens.

Assuming you have the dash that displays fuel mileage, watch that. I have mine set for 10 minute intervals and when it goes into regen (and as said before, the message only shows up for a few seconds) my instant mpg reading goes down to around 10 mpg. This lasts for about ten miles. This is usually done on the highway so in town it's harder to gauge. You have to be going at a constant speed though otherwise you can't tell. Once it's done with regen, mine goes back up to the 18-20 mpg mark.

Ok. After I had the sensor replaced I was at waiting for my wife with the truck running and a message came up and told me to "drive my truck to clean exhaust filter". I had never seen that. Once I started driving it changed to " cleaning exhaust filter" and that stayed on for 20 min. After it was complete it actually to me it was complete.

I've had one "drive till clean" message, you will get this message if you shut your truck before the regens are complete too many times, the message will stay on the screen till the regen is complete. I don't think you have an issue. All other regen messages will only pop up on the screen for a few seconds.

In another regen thread somebody was wishing there was an option to postpone regen and I agree because it always seems that when I'm about to pull into my lane, my truck goes into regen. And this usually after a 200 or 400 or even 600 mile drive. I know it's based on soot level and that this would be hard to engineer but it sure would be nice to have just a tiny bit of control over something that is such a pain.
It depends on your driving patterns/habits. City miles, short trips, heavy loads, sooner than empty highway trips. My 1st regen hit at 500 miles but I was completely unloaded. I have 1700 miles on it now and it's gone through 3 regens but I drive long highway trips and I have only hauled water twice. If you're pulling a trailer, it will be shorter as well.
Oh, and congrats on the new truck.

I pulled the horses up the canyon last night for a trail ride. My daughter and her friends were with me and jabbering about teen age stuff, So I was paying more attention to my Edge CTS. I left the trail head with 1.80 Soot and by time I got home that number had dropped to 1.35. It was all a passive regen that did the work. The truck never went into an active regen. I could watch the Soot % increase ( 1.55 to 1.60 for example) when I got off the interstate and had to accelerate away from the stop sign and up a grade. So I know I'm pour out more soot when under heave turbo boost.
On long sloping grades where I was just holding 60 mph, with the engine just loafing along my EGT dropped to 400° or so, the soot % would also slowly start to climb. On level grades where the engine was kinda working, EGT temps in the 600° the soot % would slowly drop.
The point being, If you can get the EGT over 572° and not be under heavy turboboost, You will have Passive regens and could really push the miles between Active Regens way out.
You probably had a regen and didn't even notice. It's really easy to miss the 2 second message on the command center and most folks will not hear or notice a regen.

Is there a screen that shows the soot level? If so, I gotta check out the screen options a little bit more. Havent had alot of seat time due to work, but there is alot of stuff that I still have to learn. Appreciate the helpful info fellas.
You need the Edge CTS, the trucks info screen itself will not tell you the soot level.
