Some say what was going on was not illegal!
What ever happened to Shoplifting, Vandalisim, Disturbing the peace, Illegal assembly and more laws and ordinances that are surely being broken or violated? I'm sure I could think of more reasons to arrest those involved if given a little more time. I'm just glad I was not there as I would probably have been arrested or be dead by now.

I think the video was removed due to the make up of the race of those involved. Even Jacksonville News removed it but it may be due to "old" news. I found a bunch of the Jacksonville videos by searching Yahoo...."jacksonville walmart flash mob".

What? The media editing the news? Media determining content based on race?

Say it ain't so.....

I have to agree with those that said the cities will be the worse place to be. That video confirmed that this is what we can expect if things go "south". Or maybe it is a Wal-Mart thing? Loss of monetary value of money or a natural disaster will bring out the looters.

What items should be kept in a "bug out" kit and what items for survival? Should food be buried for later use? The wife bought a couple solar lights for out in the yard. I think those maybe put to a good use in case of an emergency.

Katrina should show you what will become of the cities once the infrastructure crashes, hopefully those people will starve before getting far enough out to bother us.

But just in case, heavy firepower is within easy reach here.

A few LED flashlights by Maglight, Night vision binoculars, lots of batteries and lots of fuel for vehicles and generators. A bug sprayer converted into a flame thrower will work great for "Pest control". A tornado/storm celler made from an old school bus and properly buried and concealed will work great for living quarters. An old "Starlight" rifle scope and a Model 70 Winchester chambered to .300 magnum as well as assorted semi auto pistols and a stock of ammo and reloading gear. The ability to cast your own lead would also be a good thing to have as well as a copy of "The Anarchist's Cookbook". I'm sure there is a lot I have not mentioned but we all have to consider our group's daily needs.

I think it's naive to think that the coming collapse isn't premediated, or that the "elites" for lack of a better world, would not hesitate to use urban thugs to round up and eliminate those people who are prepared to try and wait it out.

Remember what happened in the soviet union. anyone who owned land, had a business, or any ability to provide for himself and serve as an example to others was eliminated.

They also required that all firearms be registered. Then the police came around an picked all of them up. Resistance was not condoned and if you could not or would not surrender the weapon they took you!!! This is exactly what the NRA and the Minutemen, as well as others have been protesting and resisting.

Hoarding or at least saving up some gas/fuel is a good thing, but not going to be a real help in a full-out collapse unless you hoard a LOT. Then you're a target.
Best bet is to hoard parts, mechanical bits and pieces to make stuff as needed, and medicines, especially Listerine. That was originally developed as an antiseptic to prevent infection.

Make sure your tetanus shots are up to date....They're good for...oh....10 years anyway......That should get you past the worst parts.....

Dental issues? Ditto. Stuff you can get fixed no problem in a civilized society will be worth it's weight in gold in a collapse.......

Ok, so where could we live, in a wooded area? I don't think we could stay in our homes. I do have some camping supplies and can make myself at home in the outdoors if I had to. Plenty of National Forests to get lost in.

Great ideas on what to store/hoard! Great ideas on what to look for as a societal collapse!

Might need to clarify a couple of things.

To me, the tipping point will be reached when tax reform is futile (i.e., more are sucking off of the system than are paying into it....and we're close.....)......When spending reform is futile (i.e., nothing will be done because of fear of insurrection if programs are cut or ended)......And when there's a general breakdown in trust of societal institutions. All of the above will make economic collapse inevitable.

HOWEVER.....

After reading a few posts....There may be differences in what we perceive the actual collapse to LOOK like. In other words.....Barbarism/Cannibalism like in 'The Road'? A breakup of the country into several units where some of the units remain functional after a fashion? Fractured family or tribal groups constantly under attack or threat from armed gangs...or even armies? Some other scenario, like things get really sucky, but the country as a whole comes out the other side bruised but alive?

Who knows?

I agree that when the freeloaders supply runs out what else are they going to do? Take from those that have supplies. Whether it is from the local store or those that have prepared.

'The Road' was a movie I shouldn't have seen. Impossible to think society would sink that low but it has before. Will Smith in 'I am Legend' was a good movie. How does the 'Book of Eli' compare? I haven't seen it yet.

Who let the freeloaders in? They are here to dispossess us of the last free country on earth.
