This is a long shot but here it goes. I have an 06' 6.0 powerstroke i have only 84k miles on it i recently was driving it and the engine light came on. When i returned home i plugged it up and did the normal. The next morning i went tocrank it(not never rough start before this) it had a rough start and wasn't to cold outside either. She started to Spit and sput Black smoke out and then it seemed as if the once it warmed up it ran fine. Went to the grocery store and then came home with no problem. I went the next morning to another rough start which became worse and harder to start. So i took the truck to see which code was jumping, and i do not remember the code but the dealership said weak injector, yet the truck ran the same as it ever has. Its been down for a couple months and figured i give it a try. Now when i try to see if she would start the truck hits and turns over but wont stay running, i hope this info. i can get some kind of tips, maybe a helpful start on which way i should start the process of getting the truck back on the Road. Thanks
Don't let us scare you off..... there's about to be a ton of information dumped on you, so take some time to digest it before you get worried. Pretty much everything that can go wrong on a 6.0L has been documented here, so don't get overwhelmed with the flood of information that's not specific to your current problem.
The FICM is an engine module that commands the injectors, it operates in part by converting 12V to 48V, and is very prone to failing. Common causes are weak batteries, a dying alternator, or a bad flash from Ford that damages the circuit board. Once it starts to go, you can get rough starts, no starts, an it'll throw out injector codes.
Since there is a chance it's not the FICM (or not just the FICM) and the truck isn't starting, here's our "No start" checklist that you can start working through: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...condition.html
Us being able to help you stems from you being able to give us some pretty specific info, and that Scangauge is the most cost effective way to do it. There's an engine-specific forum for the 6.0L, if you go down there and look around odds are you can search up threads that cover your exact problem to see how it's been addressed before. There are lists of codes for the Scanguage that you can program in to do things like check FICM voltage without crawling under the hood with a volt meter, and if it IS the FICM that's causing your current problem, there's a sponsor on here who fixes them up for a fair price. So no worries, it'll get fixed in short order! 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
When was the last time the batteries were
replaced? Low voltage can and will kill the FICM
If it's been a while pull them out and get
then charged and tested.
Texastech_diesel is right the Scanguage II
will save you headaches
It's better to see what is going on and know then get
a surprise.
Well here is the run down after the troubleshooting I did, well I got it running last night with fully charged batteries, with a rough start, shortly after running a few mins it cleared up, the problem I'm running into is that the engine light is cutting on and off, I cranked it this morning drove to work. When I left to go see my friend the engine light was off with no codes present. So at this moment I'm stuck, and thanks for all yalls help
