Hard to start

Ive got a 2004 6.0 psd 111,700 km in the last 3 first cold starts for the day the truck has needed to be run through the start sequence twice before it will start at which point it runs rough for about 10--15 seconds then smooths out, then the high idle kicks in at the point in time that it normally does.runs fine after that.any startup after the trruck is warm or even right after the first startup it will start right away.today the first startup the truck stalled then started up ran rough for 10-15 sec then soothed out as normal.the temps here have been above freezing for sometime, tonight i have plugged in the truck to see if that helps tomm morning.this is the first time its done this since ive owned the truck since 2007.thanks for all the replies.......Paul

Sounds alot like my problem with my 2005 but mine got alot worse, it started out like yours, then worse cold starts, then loss of power and cutting out on the hiway, then a no start after 8 hours @ 60 deg outside.

I though I had injector problems(and still might ) But was looking in the tech folder at the FICM test and thought "I can do that" and got 25v while cranking they say that spells bad FICM so I ordered a rebuilt from Swamp's for $400.00 still hoping it does the trick fedex says it will be here tomarrow at 4:30pm so i'll put it in fri.

I will update on my initial thread weather or not it took care of all my problems

Have you code scanned it? Could be FICM, injectors, GPCM or even dirty oil. As Diesel32 said, check the tech folder for the FICM voltage test procedure and have it code scanned.

As npccpartsman said - Start w/ the FICM - it could be generating lower-than-needed voltage for the injectors. When the injectors are "under-performing" they can cause issues that clear up some when full engine temps are reached.

Don't mess with your FICM until AFTER you've ordered your new one.

There can be some pretty hefty core fees involved, and some places won't refund a core fee for a FICM that's been tampered with.
