Got a 1990 F150 Extended Cab Long Box as the donor truck, has an AOD tranny, 1356 BW Transfer Case, D44 TTB 3.55 Front Axle, front/rear sway bars.
Drove an hour to pick the truck up, (engine barely runs) and trailered it another 3 and a half hours North to a relatives place, where I am working on it.
So far at this point, we got the front axle entirely out. Impact wrenches and a torch sure help in the rust belt.
Next step: Rebuild Front Axle, new Ball Joints, U-Joints, and fluid change. Discovered that the Brake Rotors and Calipers are fairly new (previous owner replaced). Then we are going to clean it up and paint it.

Finished pulling the front TTB axle, I'm on the left:
Can only work on it on the weekends, since I'm working 10 hour days during the week. Also working on it 2 hours from home at a Relative's place.
Because I recently had the original engine replaced. New has 60,000 on it.
Ah. Yeah, been there. I bought a blazer a while back and had to replace the trans. Then I found the block was cracked so I put a new motor in it too. So I've spent WAAAAY too much on this rig and might as well hang onto it.

Exactly. Also, this makes for a fun project. The conversion is 100% bolt up.
I just need to source the proper rear driveshaft from a local junkyard.
Might break even when I sell the 2wd stuff, tranny, etc.
- Professional Grade Raybestos/Spicer Ball Joints, Upper and Lower on each side.
- Polyurethane Axle pivot bushings
- Polyurethane Radius Arm Bushings
- Tie rod dust boots
- 3 front axle Spicer U-Joints
Going to pull the tranny and transfer case off the parts truck this weekend, and start cleaning up the TTB axle for when the new parts arrive.

Welcome to my world ("cept I'm doing the 60).
Another reason to do the swap, 2wd trucks GENERALLY are not driven as hard, and the pride in saying "I did that."

Very true! And yeah it'll be a custom truck when it's done.

Aside from pulling the twin I beams out, and tossing my TTB in...
I still need to put the Axe Pivot Bushings in...Got the old ones out, but the outer sleeves didn't come out....
I do need a question answered....
is the bolts from the 4x2, for the Axle Pivot Bushings, etc the same for the 4x4?
The 2 actual bolts that holds the center section of the TTB on...
The bolts should be 100% identical. So far all the hardware on my 4x4 parts truck has been the same on my 2wd.
Don't quote me on that, though. Because I haven't compared the 4x4 axle pivot bolts to the 2wd axle pivot bolts.
Got the tranny and transfer case pulled out of the '90 F150 parts truck. Then took whatever odds and ends I needed, and had the local scrapyard come take the rust bucket away.
So now the front axle is torn apart entirely, waiting on new parts.
So today I ordered:
- Front sway bar bushings
- Front differential pinion seal
- Inner and Outer wheel bearings, along with Hub seals
- Front differential cover gasket
- Front driveshaft U-Joints (Spicer)
- Transfer case output shaft seals, front and rear.
That's it for this weekend, going back home tomorrow, and I'll upload a pic of the progress so far.
