Front axle torn apart, and tranny/t-case pulled. (I'm on the left)

Now just waiting on new parts to arrive.

Working under that rust bucket parts truck was NOT a clean job, lol.

Looks great Alex...

I VERY HIGHLY recommend taking your time, going through it all..Replacing all the Bushings, etc...U-Joints and whatnot..Stuff that gets gnarly while it's on the truck..

And Wirewheeling and painting it all..With Valspar Ant-Rust Corrosion Armor paint...

It's available at Tractor Supply...

Thanks, Wes!

Already working on replacing all u-joints, bushings, etc. Just waiting for all the new parts to arrive at the house, ordered most of the stuff online.

We are going to wire wheel and paint it all up as well. Thanks for the paint suggestion.

Wes -

I think I will go with black in that paint. Maybe gloss black? Should look pretty sharp when it's all cleaned up and painted with all new parts.

Replacing pretty much everything in the Dana 44 except for the Calipers, Hubs, and Rotors. Found those to be basically brand new. Previous owner apparently replaced those things. And not replacing the Front Differential gears either, they are in great shape. No metal shavings.

Also discovered that the 4x4 AOD tranny has a brand new Pump in it.

Looking good, Wes! Keep me updated on your 4x4 conversion progress.

Why are you not just going to swap the entire rear axle?

To replace all the bearings, seals, etc...And completely redo the whole thing is about $500 or so dollars...And I don't have the tools to do so with...So even more cost..

Just gonna go the cheaper route...

True... Well whatever works then.

My stepdad has air powered tools, making this conversion a lot easier. However, we have run into a few bolts that need heating with the oxy torch before blasting them off with the impact wrench.

---------------

Anyways here is an updated list of new parts I have ordered, everything should arrive by Wednesday:

- Professional Grade Raybestos/Spicer Ball Joints, Upper and Lower for each side.
- Axle pivot bushings.
- Radius Arm Bushings.
- Tie rod dust boots.
- Three Front axle Spicer U-Joints.
- Front sway bar bushings.
- Front diff pinion seal.
- Front diff cover gasket.
- Front driveshaft Spicer U-Joints.
- Inner and Outer wheel bearings, races, hub seals.
- Transfer case output shaft seals, front and rear.
- Transfer case Input shaft seal.

All I need now is...

- Transfer case fluid
- Tranny fluid and filter
- Front diff fluid
- Rear driveshaft from the junkyard
- Gloss Black Paint

Thanks Wes, I actually went with Krylon Rust Tough, couldn't find the paint you suggested in the town where I'm working on the truck.

Couple more pictures from the weekend.. nothing real exciting:

After stripping rust, TTB Arms, radius arms, Front sway bar before paint:

And WOW were those Axle Pivot Bushings a PITA to replace!!!

I see your donor truck had quad shock. Are you putting those in your current truck or does it already have them?

Also, I know the 4X4 trucks have 9/16 X 3" pivot bolts but I'm not 100% sure about the 4X2 trucks.

BTW it's lookin great.

Thanks Steve!!

My truck just has single shock coil buckets, and so did the parts truck. No quad shock towers on that.

I can verify what size the 2wd pivot bolts are when I get the TTB under my 2wd this weekend.

Then all that's left is to figure out what to do for a rear driveshaft, and change fluids in everything.
