I have a 95 f150 with the 5.8 its 4x4 regular cab short bed problem is it runs perfect when cold or first start but after short drive 5-10mins is enough when i cut it off and get back in it begins to idle a little high and shifts really harsh like a shift kit would it also will begin to miss at all rpms while driving at any speed unless im on the gas. So far ive done compression check replaced spark plugs, wires, distributer with cap and button and crank sensor. Ive also replaced throttle pos sensor, o2 sensor, and map sensor. truck has good compression and good power and it has also had cooling system flushed but needs it again and heat core needs replacing soon all other work done in last 5 months. any help would be greatly appretiated.
Have you tried checking for any stored or active codes? 5.8L you probably have a E4OD. If your speedometer is working smoothly, then I would think the VSS is good, your speedometer uses the ABS sensor for a speed signal, then converts it to a usable signal for the EEC and cruise.
hey again thanks for the good answers that was something i had not thought of but unfortunately vss checks out good by book and no speedo problems
the real trick here is that all the problems happen at the same time ( after motor is warm ) and i cant figure what could tie all these syptoms together how about egr valve?? as i mentioned before i flushed the cooling system because one day i opened to check and it looked like pudding in it so i flushed repeatedly for weeks til is was clean and also used pipe cleaners to clean water jackets for throttle body dont know if this helps you guys any but its more info. this has baffled many good mechanics including myself so again help anything sounds good at this point. (really want truck to tow boat this weekend lol)
I repeat, retrieve the codes first. You might try changing the ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) the one for the EEC, not the one for the gauge. Your profile simply says VA for location, where in VA? If you are not too far, I have a Snap-on Solus pro and your EEC will deliver live data.
thanks for the help thus far i didnt discount your suggestion on code reader just hadnt set it up til late last night but ive got a friend around here that has code reader (its a snap on also maybe same one) hes going to look at it for me early next week in mean time ill check that coolant sensor. Im about 2 hrs from you im on other side of dinwiddie Co from you thanks again ill update my findings for all to know
