Hi everyone my first post but have been a part of the site for a while but it my first post I no longer have the bronco II in my user name now I have a 95 f-150 regular cab short box with the 5.0 and 5 speed transmission.
My problem is that when I bought the truck the speedo didnt work and I found out that the wires that run to the speed sensor were corroted trough and the aires broke so I put a new connector on it and the ABS light went out and the spedometer works ok at slower speeds under 30 MPH but anything above the spedo jumps like crazy at 55 it will jump all the way to the peg and peg out and when it pegs out the engine cuts out for that split second and comes to life I thought that might be because the engine is governed and cuts out when the speedo hits the peg. I thought this might be because if you just unplug the speed sensor it never cuts out. Any help would be greatly appreceated
Press and hold the RESET button on the front of the speedometer while turning the key to RUN.
Release the RESET button.
Does the pointer smoothly prove out, or sweep from 0 to maximum speed then back to 0?
It goes to maximum speed then back to 0 and reads e 08 6 on the odometer
Your Cluster should be OK then.
You should then check RABS/VSS SPEED SENSOR RING and SENSOR for:
Damaged, missing or bent teeth
Metal chips on speed sensor
Open or shorted sensor
Improper gap between sensor and speed sensor ring
Also check the wiring and the plugs from the sensor to the dash.
