this morning my truck came out of overdrive and into neutral on the way to work on the freeway. It would go to neutral when I hit fifty mph then go back in gear when it dropped down below forty five or so. I drove it on surface streets with the OD off and it was fine. drove home forty five min on surface streets and had no problems... I got two codes when I checked. one is 332 which is egr opening not detected, the other is 452... which would be vehicle speed sensor and psom signal something or another.... would either or both of these sensors (the vss and psom) cause the trans to shift like that??? if so, what is the best way to get at the psom and where is the vss exactly??? any help would be appreciated. its a 95 f150 supercab 4x4, 351, e4od trans... 226,505 miles on the clock
Yes codes for the vss could cause the transmission to not shift right, actually if ur vss is not working at all for one ur speedo will not work and 2 the transmission overdrive button on the shifter will start blinking after a while and the truck will eventually not even go into overdrive anymore until repaired, the reason this happens is because the transmission contoler gets its proper shift points by looking at the vehicle speed sensor and if its not working properly than it can cause different problems in the trans. but in this case it sounds like a little more than just the vss but i would go with repairing that before i looked at anything else, and as far as i kno i dont think the egr would effect the trans at all
yea its possible that the sensor is going bad but not completely bad which means its probably just a lazy sensor, and it doesnt half to be the sensor either it can be corrosion or something somwhere in the wires going to the sensor, but i would start with replacing the sensor and if u can just take a glance and follow the wires as far as u can to see anything visibly wrong i would do that also, the vss is located on the top of ur rear axle
