Excursion changes per year-V10

I'm looking at a 2000 excursion v10 limited. Were there any changes in the V10 engine or trans or anything else from 2000-05?

The 05 engine got the 3 valve compared to the 2 valve in the earlier years. I think another change were the spark plug threads, somewhere in 02. They added a few more as there were a few spitting out some of the plugs.

I think there was a diode change in 02 also, in the tranny, or was that the 7.3 tranny. Hmm?

The Excursion never got the 3 valve Triton engines.

As far I know, the V10s aren't known for spitting spark plugs like the 4.6 and 5.4 are.

2001 had issues with a Transmission diode but they were recalled and by now, most of them have probably already been repaired.

Tow rating on the 2000 was a bit lower than subsequent years due to the size of the bolts used.

Unfortunately, all of the modular engines had the problem, including the V10's.

The cure? Inserts or new updated heads.

But that's not necessary. Just change the plugs on a cold engine and tighten to proper torque specs.

The margin for error is slimmer, so you can't just do the old shadetree mechanic method and tighten them down by feel, because it's usually too much.

No recall. No free replacement.

Just use proper procedures when doing your plugs and check them every-so-often and you'll be fine.

Take it to a shop and have an insert (Timesert, Lock-n-Stitch, etc) installed. Few hundred bucks depending on the shop, plus a new COP and plug.

Not hugely widespread, but not as rare as you might think.
