The 05 engine got the 3 valve compared to the 2 valve in the earlier years. I think another change were the spark plug threads, somewhere in 02. They added a few more as there were a few spitting out some of the plugs.
I think there was a diode change in 02 also, in the tranny, or was that the 7.3 tranny. Hmm?
Some say it got the 3 valve and some don't, which is it?
personal experience tells me the 5.4 v8 was the worst. my '98 blew one and i caught the second right before it went. 2 other friends also have blown plugs on there 5.4's. now i've had 3 V10s and know of 4 others that own them and have for a period of time. no plug spitting w/the V10's. now i know they all do it..but i have heard and seen way more V8's blowing them.
the excursion NEVER got the 3 valve motors. or coil front springs on the 4x4's. like the super dutys did in '05.
i noticed the difference in the y-pipe on my old '00 compared to my '02 and '04. debated on taking the one off the 00 and putting it on the 02 but dunno if its worth it.
I doubt it very much, you might as well go to headers.
