Need some help diagnosing an electrical issue. The truck is a 90 F150 4.9. Right now there is no power to the truck. The battery is fully charged. I replaced the starter solenoid and power was restored until I engaged the starter which fried another solenoid. Could it be the starter? Thanks.
It certainly COULD be the starter -- or a short in the wiring.
Check the wire to the starter with a good meter -- there's probably a spec for the resistance somewhere-- but it will be pretty low.
Would be worthwhile to take the wire off at the starter and check with a meter to see if it's shorted to ground.
One more thing to think about -- is the starter stuck ( motor frozen or just jammed). I don't know if a stuck starter would blow the solenoid -- but it might.
