Even regrinds can be risky. My newly rebuilt engine...had to pull cam b/c the shop who reground the cam made base circles too small, and lifters dropped too far and made a wonderful machine gun noise, just right for a dub over.

Sorry everyone,
Have had a bunch of family in town from Los Angeles for the last week or so so not a whole lot has gone forward.

Either way, it's gonna be a slow process. I'm not in any hurry. But I'll definitely post pics when I do something. Hopefully soon! I want to get moving on it.

This thread is something I watch carefully as I want to do this myself.
This may not be the place for this question, but if I want to swap the 240 crank, pistons, and connecting rods with 300 stuff, should I change the 240 cam or cam gear with a 300 cam and gear as well?

I would say yes to using the stock 240 crank gear so as not to create any more wear. Good thing you brought this up, I'm about to do the same.

Replacement gears should be the same. If you're keeping the stock cam get a Cloyes adjustable set and run it 4 degrees advanced. There's no reason not to replace the timing set while the engine's apart.

I thought my build would be further along but I found out I was getting a new bathroom. Christmas is looking good right about now...

After having to replace my t.gears after only 60 miles on a new set, I learned to buy quality, and not the cheapos that come with a lot of gasket sets. Cloyes is the best. Comp Cams makes a set too.

Once I got the machine work done it took me 3 days to rebuild, and R&R the old engine. But I had a pro looking over my shoulder. Had he not been there, it would have taken me much longer. I remember that filing the rings were a major pain.

I have also learned to spend the extra $ and get the expensive hp head gasket...yeah, the one for like $55! 'Why is there never enough $ to do a job right, but always enough to do it over?'
