FICM question please help!

I was told that it is suppose to read 47.5 to 48 but hooked mine up to the scanner tonight and it was reading 45.5 to 46.5. Is this telling me my FICM is junk or that I need new batteries or what? I also checked it when my truck was cold if that makes any difference. The sides were reading 13 to 13.5 . Please let me know what I need to do. Thanks!

I am guessing your using a scan guage or something of the sort to check ??

The voltage should be as you stated 47-48 volts and around 12+ on supply.

Make sure your batteries are up and in good condition and that your altenator is putting out the amps and voltage that it should. Bad batteries and altenators will wipe out your ficm, I know personally from experience.

Another sign that the ficm is weak is you will start seeing more than normal black soot on the rear bed and bumper. Fix it before you have to replace the injectors, a guy named Ed does a lot of the ficm repairs for a lot of the people on this forum and is highly spoken of.

I have nothing for black soot even with the module up on 65hp setting it doesn't blow black smoke. I am using a snap on scanner. Guess I will check the alternator and batteries.

Double check batteries and alt output before you do anything else first.

Personally, I think Ford's TSB was geared more towards trying to minimize warranty claims and they set that voltage limit too low. No real data to prove it, but that is my opinion. I wouldn't want to see anything under 47V, but that is just me - I hate the idea of being stranded.

Your FICM is on its way out. I bought a halfshell on ebay and repaired mine in less than 40 mins.

Your FICM is definitely on the way out. Check out my FAQ page at FICMrepair.com for further ways that you can stress test that module, but the upshot is that it needs to be repaired.

We'd of course be happy to help out, providing a better and more reliable end product than what Ford continues to provide 'new'.
