61 steering column

I'm pulling and replacing the cab on a 61 f100 4wd. Everyone says "just pull the steering column off. Well I've been trying but it's not moving. The front clip is off and everything is disconnected down to the where it goes into the gear box but I can't get it to move. do I need to pull the entire column apart? I thought I could do this with the steering wheel and column tube still attached. What am I missing? Lou

Look at pic: Notice that the one piece steering shaft & worm (3524) goes directly into the steering gearbox.

So the gearbox and column have to be removed as a one piece assembly, once Pitman Arm (3590) is removed from sector shaft (3575) or disconnected from draglink (3304).

1961/64 F100/250 4WD same, as is 1965 F100/250 4WD & 1966 F250 4WD / 1961/64 F100/250 2WD similar, also has a one piece steering shaft & worm.

steering column

Damn! Thanks Bill! Good thing I asked. Everybody I talked to around home said it would just pull out. You just saved me a lot of pain and I'm sure a few bucks repairing the damage I would have done. Lou
