Has anyone ever removed a cab (66 4WD) and not removed the cab glass or dash components ? Is it possible ?? Is it possible to replace the floor pans with cab on ? Thanks - I appreciate all the wisdom from the experience on this site!!
Removing the cab requires taking the fenders, inner and outer, either off or just pulling all the bolts. Also need to remove the hood. From there you You should just be able to disconnect the harness and such from the cab. From there remove the bolts that hold the cab down and lift it off.
You could do the floor pans with the cab on, but it will be more difficult.
You will probably want to disconnect the steering column or remove it or you will have to lift the cab pretty high to get it over the steering column. Id also remove the gas tank and seat at the very least drain the tank and remove the seat. The doors and hood go without saying. Glass is not that heavy I have done it with or without the glass in place.
I knew I was missing something. Steering column, duh! And yeah like Buzz said, seat and gas tank are a good idea as well. Doors are entirely dependent on how many people you have available when you lift it off. I would not take them off unless you have to.

I have removed doors and reinstalled them in the proper position with no problem. Just take an ice pick preferable or some sharp object and scribe around the door hinge. Just re align hinge back to the scribe mark and bolt back on. Lifting cab with doors installed adds about an extra 100 lbs or so.
cut out old floor pans and replaced with new ones as well as replaced both front cab supports without removing the cab. not easy but doable.
same here with the addition of rebuilding lower a and b pillars. if your just doing the floor pans and maybe the cab mounts i'd leave the cab on the frame because i hate taking all the stuff apart. personal preference i guess.

Not an issue at all to remove entire cab and front clip at once.
basic 6 bolts on cab and core support
disconnect column
speedo cable
engine wiring harness
radiator hoses
e-brake cable
brake line from master
trans cooling lines if auto
heater hoses
tail light wiring disconnect
and of course a few more I left off.
I had my cab off in under 2hrs time with front clip attached
I had mine off to fix the floors and cab mounts. Remove the shifter from the transmission that way you do not have to get as high. I used a cherry picker (engine hoist) with the doors off. Pull it off side ways so you don't have to go over the engine.
Thanks for all the input. Well, upon a closer look, I will have to remove cab after all. The flanged seam where the floor meets the firewall on the driver side is in bad shape. I don't think the replacement floor pans reach that high (if i'm wrong, please let me know) so I will have to fabricate from that seam down to where the pan can grab on to it. At least thats what I can see while its still all together !!
MNTBUGGY - Where did you secure chains for your cherry picker to mount ? I have a big chain come along that is connected to the rafters in the garage (Use it to pull motors out). I plan on using it to lift the cab but not sure what to grab on to. I was thinking of sliding 4x4's under front and rear. Any thoughts would be appreciated
remove fenders remove tranny cover put 4x4 under tranny cover opening used cherry pic thru door left sterring column on sterwheel off doors off up and over sterring column
replaced part of left floor pan (at mount)and part of left side kick wall
When i used the cherry picker i reached into the cab through the door opening on the side and used the outer seat belt holes and the lower door hinge points.
In my younger days i changed one out under at tree using slings through the roof area and ones coming from the cowl area to help stabilize it.
Thanks Mntbuggy, I did the tree thing with an old VW Bettle years ago (my first car). This time around I will work something out in the garage. The sling through the roof didn't damage anything ? I was afraid of possible roof or door frame damage
