Hi,

remove the front inner and outer fenders, the hood, grill and if you need also the radiator support.
I would remove the carpet to get access to the openings where you'll find the bolts which are holding the cab in place. There are two in the front footroom (driverside and passenger side) and two in the crossmember behind the seat or the rear seats.(depending of which cab you have)
I think there are only 4 bolts.
To get the cab off, take the steering joint apart and disconnect all electrical
wires....
Than lift the cab slowly and take care that you have disconneced all....

If you need any further assistance or some pic's....

Thanks for the reply. My question was not so much what to disconnect, unbolt, ect. I pretty much know how these trucks are put together Rather I was interested in the best way to lift it off the chassis.
Some threads say to run a 4x through the window opening. That seems like alot of stress on the roof. Others say to jack it up. Just wonderered how others have done it

ok, my mistake

How to lift....years ago I have restored a '74 Gran Torino Sport Coupe.
I unbolt the whole car and took two freinds to lift up the car from the Chassis.
If the engine or the bed ist removed I would do it exactly so.
Two years ago I unbolt the bed of my F-250 at the same way....it works fine

a 4x4 is not tresson the cab I've used a 2x6 with two 2x4 attached underneath on edge I've used a long nylon strap , and I've had six freinds help lift the cab on I prefer the nylon stap method a twelve footer through the window openings and a adjustable to the cowel area to balance it out. I built a 12 foot tall frame of I beam to use as a derrick with a chain hoist on to lift from, and can do it by myself now

when I did mine, me and 3 of my friends jacked it up and put 4x4s under it and blocked it up high enough to get the old frame out from under it. then I slid the new frame under and me and 3 other guys lifted it while 2 other people pulled the 4x4s and we sat it down on the new frame.

they aren't the lightest things around and the front is a bit heavier.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was concerned about lifting by the roof might cause it to buckle. Plowpusher, that's what I'm using, a chainhoist on an overhead I-beam. I like the idea of nylon strap. What width strap did you use, and where is the balance point in the window opening? One thread here said it was to the front up against the division bar. Thanks
