how is that NOT true?

when you run hotter it puts more stress on the components, thus speeding up wear patterns. metals become softer the higher the temperatures. that is one of their physical properties.

id bet you anything that an engine that is run at normal operating temperature will outlast one that is constantly at redline.

i dont want to start any argument, CSI, but i do not agree.

so far we have all agreed that his temperatures are normal. and that 1200+ is still safe. most of us just dont like to have SUSTAINED temperatures that high.

Tests have shown that oil temps at 200* have less wear then temps below 180*...

Cooler, is not always better.

Its just a truck...

A lot of money pissed away on something that gets me from point A to point B... Sometimes having to stop at point C...

Love it, but over it. Would take a stock 6.4 or 6.7 in a heart beat.

I know the feeling. Still love my truck......... But PMS does have its limits.

I don't want a newer one, just had to stop throwing money at this one.

I got the truck back together yesterday (mods in sig) and was going down the road with the cruise set at 55mph and I noticed my EGTs at 6k, I thought this might be high but wasn't sure. Then I came up on a hill, not a large one probably 2-3% grade and 1/8-1/4 mile long, the EGTs rose to 9k. This seems very excessive to me. This was all on 80e so I jumped down to stock and my cruising egts jumped to 7k (I didn't pull the hill in stock).

I then found an open stretch of road and from a rolling start (about 15mph) I put it to the floor and by the time I was going 70mph the egts were 13k, I promptly let off.

I have stock exhaust minus the muffler, I am sure that 4in would help out but how much?

Sensor is in drivers manifold.
maybe get this back on track, my truck weighs 6500lbs (pretty light) but mine stays around 400 around town on all flat roads, maybe goes up to 6 around town. racing, ive got it up to maybe 1200 at the most.

now, i do have a 5" exhaust. maybe it's time for a exhaust system to lower your EGT's?

for me modding is to help the truck run better and last longer. that is why i dont shoot for a HP number, just to see how long i can make it run and how well it can.

and no i do not want a 6.7 the cost of that i could make my truck last 200 years.

My buddy called me today and said his distributor called him and was running a special on 4" MBRP exhaust and free shipping so I told him to order me one.

I am all the way in your camp in this one.

Look at the issues we talk about with our trucks. Poor design this (UVCH, CPS, Fuel pickup, etc...) and tired that (4R100, HPOP, pre-turbo exhaust, etc...). I had a "tour" under the 6.7 and there is something like 5 times the electronic modules as our pre-emission vehicles - some mounted under the truck on the outside. They also have that urea injection system the I just bet needs a good mod when it's out of warranty (sorry CA, you have to keep it). These things are getting so expensive and so complex that they are meant to be serviced by Ford or replaced. The modders' technology will keep up with the truck, but things are getting less simple and reliable with each "advancement". $70K for a King Ranch 6.7? And for that I'd get all the plastic and chrome I can handle with all those electronics whose obsolescence can be mearsured on a watch. Wait... watches are obsolete as well.

Help!!!

I’m having a similar issue. I got the truck from my grandfather with 90k. It was well taken care of. I’ve never seen my egt go over 650, but recently it’s been staying around 1000 & I can fit 1250 easily. Why did it all of a sudden go up? Sometimes it goes back down to 550ish but if i get on it, it goes back to 1000-1200 & stays there for a while just cruising
