I bought a new OEM Ford Motorctaft part # CM-5013-1X. F81Z-9C968-AB. I got ready to install and couldn't get the connector to go on. After removing the solonoid several times to see what the problem was I noticed that the connector on the solonoid was upside down compaired to the original one on the truck. I bought the truck new so I know that the IPR has never been replaced. The truck has over 279k miles on it. I have changed the ICP and now replacing the IPR because the #'s were all screwed up and it quit running and the codes said that was the issue. I would like to ask can I just turn the connector on the truck over to match the connector on the solonoid or are the wires polarized (+ and -)
We'd sure like to see what you are dealing with here. I would think the IPR connector would only go on the IPR solenoid upright - given the bail that snaps in place on top. I don't see how you could flip that connector over and still latch it. Is your IPR pigtail different from this?
Cant answer your original question but can help you with posting photos.
Use either of these buttons to get to your pictures. Find them and select “add.” They will load into a screen then you choose “upload” at the top right. At least that’s how it happens on my phone.
Lol....yes you can.
..just went thru this the other day. Fighting that damn pigtail for about 30min and finally HAD TO take a gander at the connector on solenoid. Sure enough, it's a complete 180* upside down...
This is good info to have, seeing as how I just purchased a fomoco IPR and have yet to install. I wonder if that’s an accident or how they are doing them now?
As for the original poster, not only will you have to flip the pigtail connector over but you'll also have to remove the metal latch and install it the other way...if not, you wont be able to clamp the pigtail shut, to the connector
Where are you buying your parts? And are you sure they are genuine Motorcraft?
I purchased a Motorcraft ICP from Amazon and it failed with P1280 codes within a few months.
I believe it was a knock off part. Replaced it with a genuine part from my local dealer and noticed subtle differences in the packaging.
I wonder if the inverted connector could be related to knockoff parts?
If you are confident in your parts, I would suspect your wiring pigtails or something in the harness.

That's more likely, isn't it? I have trouble believing Motorcraft would flip that IPR coil polarity like that.
