Stock Oil Cooler?
Stock Oil Cooler?
Does anyone have a picture of the stock oil cooler? I have never seen one before. Where does it mount, and where do the hoses connect to and from? I think the oil cooler came with the Trailer/Tow package.
I can take one tomorrow, but I was just inspecting mine due to an oil leak issue at the oil filter adapter mount (also houses the connections for the factory oil cooler as part of the towing package option on my truck. If you are facing the truck it is high up behind the grill in front of the radiator and to the right. I did not have any photos, so I went out and took a pic in the dark, hoping the flash would do the trick to give you an idea. The Tranny cooler is to the left of the Ford Oval about the same height.
Thanks for taking the time to take a picture, Coneynew!
Now that I know where it mounts, how is it connected? Having never seen one before, I don't understand how the oil gets to it? Where are the connections? Are there hard lines or rubber hoses?

I dont recall ever seeing an EOC on anything smaller than a 460 from the factory, not that it wouldnt fit. The tow package came with a TOC on all the trucks with A/T. The EOC connects to an oil filter adapter. It sandwiches between the filter and the existing mount on the block. The later BBF's had a water cooled unit that loved to leak, it was self contained in the adapter. Most people think this was actually a worse option.
They're steel lines (5/16" for memory - I threw mine away after a manual conversion last November).
My F250 was originally AOD equipped, with both Tow & Camper packages
, & had the external cooler.
The hot oil is delivered from the trans into the top of the radiator cooler, then to the auxilliary cooler, & back to the transmission. The delivery & return lines are clipped together & run along the RH side of the trans & engine.
The LMC site has a diagram of the cooler & pipe layout. LMC Truck Parts - Page 115
The C6 & AOD arrangement is almost identical. One line (the front, I think) is a few inches longer with the C6 trans.

My tranny cooler has the smaller metal lines and they also route through the radiator.

Thank you gentlemen.
I have an AOD and I already have a transmission oil cooler, and I understand how it works and the connections. It is the engine oil cooler that I have never seen before, and I don't understand how the oil gets to the cooler.

These are not the best pics, but here you go:
Here is the EOC mount:

This picture is looking up from the radiator support. (Hard to tell but each oil line is color coded w/ tape at the fittings. Yellow and the other white)

When the oil lines come down under the radiator support, they are attached via a metal bracket. Again you can make out the color codes on each fitting (Yellow on one and white on the other - don;t know which one is the supply / return)

Hard to see on this photo, but both oil lines connect into the angled oil filter adapter (lol, don't mind the mess - that is the aftermath of having a loosely connected oil filter adapter / worn gaskets)
