bilstein shocks for excursion??? which ones to use??
Has anyone used the bilstein 5100 shocks on the excursion front and back with the v code and b code swaps? When you did did you order the front shocks as excursion shocks with a 2 inch lift? Or f250 shocks with a 2 " lift? As for the rear which vehicle did you say they were going on and what lift amount? If someone has the part numbers that would be great because I would rather use the 5100 then the 4600 series.
Also can you put these extended 5100 on the truck until the new springs arrive???
Rear Mounts on F250 and Excursion are different, so you will want the Excursion version. The B Code mod alone will not give you any lift unless you are adding the taller block. I believe the stock size can tolerate a 2" lift.
I think the front mounts are the same. But with the V Mod you are looking at stock F250 vs 2" lift Excursion.
Great info to know concerning the use of excursion shocks in rear cause of the differences. But do you know uf I can put the 5100 on the front until i get the new springs?? Also is there much difference between the 4600 & 5100???
I had the 4600's but no experience with the 5100's. I liked them alot at first and then wasn't happy with them. I thought they were failing after a year so I bought Monroe Reflex. When I went to change them, I found out my shock mounts had stripped and loosened up and were rolling around the axle. The Bilsteins were fine and I still have them and plan on putting them on my new 04 when I get a chance.
Bottom Line: I couldn't tell the difference between the 4600's and the Monroe Reflex. Both were a huge improvement over worn out stock. I'm not an off-roader so road manners and anything that helps towing is more important to me.
I ordered bilstein's heavy duty shocks (blue and yellow) two days ago but if I had to do it again I'd look at Rancho's shock and awe deal with the rancho 9000 shocks. On another thread someone said they got four shocks and a lift kit for $18 after rebate.
