i killed a alternator on a road trip in my '00 V10 in 2010...luckily it pop'd my battery light and i turned everything off and made it 50+ miles home without issue. battery was still good enough to start her up after i replaced the alt lol

glad you got her back on the road! hope the rest of the trip is uneventful!

I'm pretty sure you can remove and clean the steering wheel buttons. I've done it on my Expedition, but I'd be willing to bet the problem is more likely in the column.

Thanks guys I'll look into this a little more then.

Right now we are back in Sidney, Ne for the night and having to reevaluate our reservations in Colorado cuz we just found our our previous hotel has been evacuated because of the fires.

Just one thing after another

You can go look up my steering wheel mod threads to see how the whole thing goes together and where the wires are...

The Blackwood wheel install will look more familiar to you being an '05, but the Navigator wheel install has a more in-depth breakdown of all the wiring since I had to make modifications.

Ok thanks, I'll look at that too.

Definitely gonna have to look at the whole dash.

Besides the horn honking while pressing the coast button and the high beams turning off the cruise control... the trip kept reseting itself on its own....and the semi good thing out of this is now the overhead compass works again....but it says I'm only getting 9.8 average mpg, lower than my calculations of 10.5 from a few tank fulls.

I would sooo buy a diesel cuz of this
