More specific 8.4 miles on SB I-15 at mm 178....something is shorting I think.
Calling AAA now for at least a battery cuz ours seems dead...
Can anyone please recommended a good electrical technician in the Vegas area, hopefully we'll be on our way and be able to make it there and be able to trouble shoot the problem better while not on the side of the highway.
Hopefully the FTE family can help us out. Thanks everybody in advance.
Sure sounds like the alternator. There is a good dealer in Vegas if you can limp there on a fresh battery. But I don't think the battery is the problem.
Being towed by a F-650....we have a friend that recommended a place called car works...probably be spending the night in Vegas cuz most places won't be open on sunday
I have had the exact thing you describe happen once on my X and twice on my F350. Every time it was the alternator. Not sure on a V10, but on 7.3 it takes less than 5 minutes to change it out. Most auto parts stores have tools you can borrow to do it in their parking lot.
IIRC around $200. I would get a new, not rebuilt, motorcraft.
Where? I bought a rebuilt from a shop locally that rebuilds them for $120 plus core charge. Most autoparts store were quoting $270 plus core for rebuilt.

Well maybe I didn't recall correctly!!!
It has been a while since I bought one. The last one was a new NAPA one, thought it was around 200, but maybe it was a little more!
