We'll be leaving out tomorrow for our first road trip pulling our Sundance. We are only going 2 hours away to an airshow and will be staying at a local campground. This will be the first time really pulling our trailer more than 5 miles, so I am pretty stoked to see how it goes. I'll have plenty of photos starting tomorrow and some good info on MPGs, trans temps, EOT, EGTs, etc... There will also be some cool photos of F-16s, F-18s, F22s, C-130s, and things of that nature. Hopefully all of my prep work pays off! Stay tuned.
Good luck! Sounds like a great weekend! I was in CA last week and surprised by all the OBS trucks. But, man oh man, you can keep all the people!!! give me a quite country road any day.

Yeah, I hear you Dan. It's pretty quiet where I am. Where did you go? The Texas Hill country would be my next pick, but no ocean makes for a dull boy here. A Californian at heart I guess though my wife keeps trying to get me to change my mind.

Looking forward to seeing your progress Byron! Hope your trip goes well! I'm sure it will be fine. Keep us posted.
And yes PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES! I can't wait! I'm into the WWII stuff myself, P-51's (one of the most beautiful aircraft ever made in my opinion), B-17's, B-29's, I also like the Messerschmitt Bf-109's too, they have a very graceful look, but I don't think there are many left. Was always impressed that they were a fuel injected inverted vee type engine. Never knew such a thing was possible. Anyways Enjoy the show
Also just curious, what do you shoot with? I'm kinda a camera buff too.

Some years ago we went to the largest gathering of P-51's ever. Pretty awesome.
Thanks for the well wishes guys! We pull out around 10 or 11 tomorrow! Thomas I didn't know you were so into aviation stuff. My dad was an F4 pilot, so my geek was started at a very young age. I'll keep you guys posted! Weather looks to be 80s all weekend with lots of sun, so no complaints.

Yeah I was really into it when I was a kid, I had all the flight simulators, combat flight simulators, those were the best. When I was in middle school I was always reading a book about WW2. It fascinated me. It all still does.
Alright guys, first little update. Some of you already know this info from my texting...LOL Well, for the first hour, things were getting dialed in. The truck handled very well, felt solid, and had no sway. The trailer sits back there and pulls great. We were fine until we got out of San Diego and started climbing the 5000 feet to get over the divide. All of my parmeters were really good except EOT. Trans never got hotter than 158*, but stayed pretty much around 148-150*. Boost stayed around 14-15 on the long pulls, which was better than what I was getting a couple weeks back. The only issue at this point was that my EOT got up to 230* on the long climbs and even as high as 235* at one point. I kept backing off until I was down to 35 and it wasn't getting better. The good news is that I had plenty of power, stock and all, to stay at 50 mph and 55 if I really layed into it. I didn't think that was too bad considering I have no TS Chip (yet) and only an open exhaust and DP as mods.
So, I pulled over and let it idle back down to 198-200* and continued on, but when the next big grade came, it went right back up. I pulled off to a rest stop and let it idle again until cool. I had another 2000 feet of elevation to go and knew this was not going to do. I also noticed my coolant temps were staying up around the A and not really coming back down in the long climbs. I kept my old 185* thermostat, so I decided to put it back in. That did the trick! The next climb was much better and it seemed to be pulling much better even. The EOTs never got above 220*. At this point, the 203 thermostat is going in the box as a spare. I think I live in too warm of a climate to be running it all the time. It was 80* when I was trying to make it over the summit. The coolant stayed around the N and the EOTs stayed around 206-208* just cruising and even got down to 198* once it all evened out.
I am not disappointed. This trip was to dial things in and make sure everything was good for when we take much longer trips. I have no complaints. I DO need a TS Chip for sure. That will be coming in the next week or two. The extra 50 or 75 HP would be a welcome thing!
Thanks Todd and Aaron for the support on the road. This forum rules super hard...seriously. Had I not invested in the Edge, I would have had no idea my oil was getting too hot and that could have been disastrous. I know we usually worry about EGTs and Trans temps, and rightfully so, but this was an eye opener. OK! On to a few truck **** pics!! Oh, trailer **** too. One last thing...we pulled in to the Blue Angels doing practice runs...pretty damn cool!
Awesome byron!glad that helped. Man,that truck sure looks good doing work!
Did the fuel leak get any worse? I love planes...I was working on a dr friends 28nash a while back at his hager. It was time to be done so I was going home. Well, long story short he took me flying in his ww2 era steerman biplane :-) great day for me

Good deal Byron! Glad Ruby is doing good for you! You guys be safe on the road
Congrats Byron, good work, good trip, good rig, good pics. Congrats. Looking at this post I want bad use my TT and my PSD.
Be safe, take care.
Hearing you about the thermostat, maybe Im going to change it too, because IIRC the last trip I did, the EOT was also high, and I live in a warmer wheater here in my country and in our beaches.
