Heck no. In cab, under the valve covers. You have to pull the FICM, glow plug module, some odd ends depending on which side, but no, you can do it in the driveway in three hours.
Ah. I think cheezit does cab-on, but mike prefers cab off, it depends if you have easy access to a lift. But you CAN do them with the cab on, there's a thread on here how to do it.
You can install ARP's with cab on. I did it last Aug. and to be honest It was alot of work but I did not think it was that hard. If you can get your hands on an overhead creeper it will make it alot easier. I also have a breakdown cherry picker which I pulled the heads off with and installed them with the exhaust manifolds on.
In your case i agree it would be better for you to do in cab(for studs and injectors)... I am doing a cab off because i am replacing an ***load of stuff and my truck is lifted on top of things. So taking the cab off just makes sense for me instead of spending damn near 30+ hours standing on a bucket and wrestling with things that i can barely reach.
2 grand is not going to get all you want done as others have said.
Below is a list of things I would recommend based on all of the knowledge I've gleamed from FTE before you consider injectors and a turbo.
-Oil Cooler ($280 from Riff Raff, best deal)
-ARP studs ($450)
-OEM gaskets ($300)
-EGR delete ($300)
-Deck the heads while out, at least check them and check valve guides? ($500?)
-Coolant filter ($125)
-Scan Gauge II addition ($160)
-Blue Spring Mod ($60.00)
-Fuel pressure and EGR Gauges ($300)
-Switch to CAT-ELC coolant ($100)
$2575 if you do the work yourself. Take off the machining of the heads and you are close to your number. To me it makes sense to do it while you have everything apart but others may say different.
You can definitely get it fixed, just may cost you more than 2 grand to do it right so you aren't in this pickle again. Another thing I forgot to add to the list is having your FICM worked while you. $275
Some people send them in if they are bad, some send them in as a preventative (I did). If they start to go to **** on you they can kill your injectors, and they are prone to failure.
