They tend to be a good thing to replace, the injectors and lines will be already out of the way, if he has had a lot of hard starting issues, his glow plugs will most likely be worn out or dead.
On a second note, I have known Injection pumps to never die quietly, especially if they are runnign when they decide to go....such as runaway engines and stuff...
