A little more information would be nice, all the things you mention can happen.

No problem, it helps to know what year the engine is and if you have any history on prior repairs. That helps us to help you...

What do you mean by fuel regulator and fuel injection?

Do you have an aftermarket gauge to monitor fuel pressure?

It is very common for the fuel pressure regulator spring to be weak and then the resulting low fuel pressure can cause injectors to be damaged.

As far as the APPs (not TPS) and EGR valve to fail - it is as Maxium said ....... it can happen.

Often times we see folks call the high pressure oil sensor (ICP) and regulator (IPR) the "fuel regulator and sensor" (because the injectors are operated using high pressure oil as a hydraulic fluid). However, the diesel fuel pressure regulator and the injectors themselves are also a possible fit for what you are saying.

Since yours is an 03, it is probably the ICP and MAYBE also the IPR.

29,000 miles on a 03? I think I would get a second opinion before I shelled out $3,300 on a truck that just quit driving down the road which was running perfectly.
