I want to put power windows, and maybe locks, in my 77. I have to replace the window gaskets anyway, so I thought this would be a good time for the conversion.
I have the following vehicles awaiting a trip to the scrap yard: 88 F150- worn out junk. 91 Explorer that had an engine fire- I can't remember if the rear windows worked or not. 95 F150 that my daughter wrecked three weeeks after I bought it. At least she didn't get hurt.
I want something that will work and is reasonably easy to do. I am not afraid of a little bit of cut and weld, but if there is something that is close to bolting in, I would rather do that than have to weld parts together.
There isn't any real hurry, I may just pull all the window regulators out and store them in the barn.
I used the electric locks out of an Explorer. I don't remember but front or rear is longer than the other and leaves you a bit more to work with. There is already an empty hole on the lock latch where you want to pull. I just wired it into an Avital 2100.
I took early 80's regulators and grafted them to the '78's. Just use the triangular part and inlet it into yours. I think a lot of year model regulators would make good donors.
Yeah, I'm going to have to take them out and compare, just waiting on a dry spell.
I am planning on using the 88's controls, since they mount flatter to the doors than either of the others. Hopefully I can mount the switches to cover the hole in the inner door panels.
That is how I did mine. Just measure twice and cut once (unlike the first one I did) as the small gear is a different diameter between manual and power.
That may be the best way to do it. I like the way the switches look in the door panel, also.

I have learned over the years to measure three or four times on critical cuts. It is one thing to have to move a sink a half inch, quite another to have to redo something on a vehicle.
