Just had fan clutch replaced and a new BPD aluminum radiator installed. 100 miles later and I got a small drop of coolant coming down the front and dripping on to the track bar.
Best I can tell from crawling all over it, is that it's coming from behind the water pump cover. Existing pump is 70,000 miles old.
I think I'll just put a new one in, but I've read that the remans on the market are now coming with metal impellers. At $40 that seems like a great deal.
Anyone have any experience with these new remans? Are they really now coming to the market with metal impellers??? (I haven't held one yet, just something I've been reading as I start to research for my next water pump.)
I would love one of those water pumps for sure. I have looked at the webpage.
When I said in my first post that $40 seems like a great deal, I guess what I should have said is that for $40 I'd be stupid at least not to do the research. Doesn't mean I'll buy the cheapest but I'd love to hear from anyone who may have taken a chance on one.
9yr old truck and 250,000 miles and rusted to all hell puts the owner in an unusual position when it comes to the replacement parts as stuff breaks.
It's nice to fit her out with the best of the best, but then you have to balance that against if the part will last way longer than the truck will , or longer than I think I'll be the owner for (before I move up to my 2007 6.0L in a few years )
I installed the Napa reman a year ago and have had no problems, don't remember if it was a metal impeller or not....I did go with the larger size impeller, I think it is 100mm and the older was 80mm..not sure on actual sizes.....
I went with the NAPA reman. It was the 90mm for my model year. $38.25 with 10% off for AAA members. --- so $34.43
It does have the metal impellor and it came with a new o-ring gasket.
There's no O'Reillys / Checkers near me but when I zoomed in on the part photo on the NAPA website and the O'Reillys website it was the exact same part. You can tell from a small mark on the metal in a few places so I'm guessing they source these from the same place.
NAPA part# WP 58597 - for model year 2003 with 90mm. Other years have the 100mm so do your own homework for the exact fit.
