3.5" or 4" exhaust

Quick question everyone. The truck came with 3.5" ehaust, cat and muffler deleted. I am going to be replacing my DP (hopefully this weekend) and I would like opinions on whether I should use the 3.5" or replace it with 4". Mods in my sig. Thanks.

Are you taking about the exhaust or the downpipe? Going with anything bigger than a 3" downpipe will require some pretty major work to the firewall to make it fit. As far as the exhaust, the 3.5 would be fine, but you could go 4" or even 5" if you wanted a more mellow tone. Performance wise though the 3" DP into a 3.5 exhaust will work just fine for you.

I have the 3" DP already and would just need to graft it to the 3.5" exhaust. Thanks guys.

I don't know if the 3.5 would sound different, but I did 4" straight pipe on mine and it sounds good! 3.5 might sound exactly the same.

Do you think it would affect performance? I know this seems so trivial but I have never heard, read, seen anyone with 3.5". Thanks.

I have this cut out on my exhaust because when I did the down pipe I didn't know if I would like the noise and thought this way I could have both. It may be a little quieter when it's closed and going through the muffler, but I like it off and especially when towing. When it's covered I have the dp to stock exhaust minus the cat. Knowing what I know now I would just go with the 4in or 5in exhaust.

I just had 3 1/2 for a few years before I went to 4. No big difference though.

Rich, how does your wife like it when the cut off plate is off?

Well if I'm going fast enough (like you) I get ahead of the sound.
Usually listening to tunes or a book with ear buds.
