The two fittings are for temperature-actuated vacuum control valves. The thermostat is sandwiched between the block and that outlet.

I just use an intake manifold from edelbrock non-egr. just want to be as simple as posible. Can i left there unplug? Actuated vacuum control valves ? what is that?
I don't have the smog system. Where we don't have any regulation for emmission. I just have the carb and manifold with stock ignition.

On the front of the distibuter he have a vacuum pipe, where i connect this hose fitting? into the manifold vacuum? sorry i'm confuse, it's my first engine build and it's going in a 1980 mustang.

The vacuum control valves look like this:

Since you are disabling and removing all the stuff added at the factory, you won't use them and pipe plugs will work if your radiator hose has outlets for them.

Most people will say the distributor's vacuum connection should go to the Ported supply port on your carburetor. This port doesn't provide any vacuum at idle and low RPMs, only higher ones.

There should be two "large" vacuum sources on the manifold. One will go to the power brake booster (if equipped) and the other is for the PCV valve.

Actually, I'm probably confusing you....

There should be a "large" vacuum source on the rear of the manifold into which is installed a Tee with a large hose going to the brake booster.

The carburetor itself should have another "large" vacuum source for the PCV valve.

I have a 9/16" hole on the back(passenger side) and 2 holes in the front, one bigger 15/16" hole on the passenger side and a 9/16" on the driver side.

Ah, yeah... I've seen that before, in fact it was just fairly recently, I think in 80-86. I don't know that there was ever a clear answer in that thread.

I have a Performer 400 and don't have that hole.

I'll ask a good carb guy I know to come check out this thread....

EDIT: OK, I sent the guy a PM but it's after midnight where he lives and I expect he's in bed. Lessee what tomorrow brings....

BTW I'd appreciate it if you'd go HERE and finish filling out your profile so people can see where you're at when you post.

Ok, Chris sent me a PM on this. The 9/16" holes are for vacuum sources. The 335 series engines (351M/400) have a "dry" intake (no water passages) as a result I suspect the 15/16" hole is probably a passage for the Thermactor (air pump) system. If you are not using that then you can put a pipe plug in it.

One minor issue a number of people on here have run into is the location of the vacuum sources. Ford used a central source that was connected to both sides of the intake for an even value. If you have a C6 transmission, you are probably going to have shifting problems. You may need to get a small (1/2") spacer that you can install a 1/4" pipe vacuum fitting in for the transmission vacuum.

Good luck with it and have fun!

Yep, you're right, Bill, thanks.

I was looking at that picture thinking that hole is on the back side... Yes, it's an AIR injection port and is normally hooked to the smog pump. A pipe plug will work if that pump isn't being installed.

The Thermactor is not gona be used, pipe plug for the 15/16" hole.

I'm using an automatic transmission (fmx). Did the 2 small 9/16" vacuum port can be use for the transmission(one of them)?

FMX is also a vacuum controlled transmission so it may shift late at light throttle. I don't know why Edelbrock did that knowing a lot of vehicles are automatics.
