For the cam gurus....
What are the positives and negatives of the two cams I have mentioned? Which would be better for my situation? Would advancing them give me more bottom end? All thoughts appreciated.

I have a 400 build tread going on in 73-79 forum, however, I felt I could get more advice here. I just got everything buttoned back up, broke in flat tappet cam, first test drive it developed a tick. After a few more run times, I came to the conclusion that I wiped a lobe. I am wanting to go roller, because I can eliminate this problem from reoccurring and also make a wee bit more power. I need some help determining the pros and cons of these two, or maybe another grind some one would recommend.

Specs- 9.3 cr, 650 four barrel and intake- dual plane. It's going in a 1979 f250, single cab 4x4, plan on having 4.56 gears with my 35's. Also plan on swapping my c6 for a zf, down the road. I realize my gearing is 3.54, however, I would like to build the engine for how the truck will be set up in the future. Thanks for the help.

What will your intended RPM range be, and what stroke is your motor? (359cid for 3.50", 410 for 4.0")
I would suggest research into beehive springs
COMP Cams: Beehive™ Valve Springs: Top 1.095" O.D., .650" I.D.; Bottom 1.445" O.D., 1.000" I.D.
Given the setup you currently have, I would go with the Crane and a decent set of headers for your rig - shooting for a 1.75" primary tube 31-33" primary length, and at least 8" of collector length (easy fabrication to do from the existing flange to help with scavenging/low-end grunt).

Just realized I didn't say what displacement it was- 400. I already have gotten a new set of springs earlier from Tim Meyer, along with everything else. They are listed as #315, now what that depicts as open or closed pressure, I couldn't say only I do believe they were capable of over .600 of lift. I don't have headers just yet but do plan on a set after I swap out my tranny, that way I only have to route exhaust once. I want power to come in as quick as possible. I felt the crane grind would turn out better for my situation aswell. Any thoughts as to advancing the cam... how much would that shift the power range, and would I encounter anything unwanted by doing so?

advancing the cam will shift the torque band, however since you have the long stroke, you may not notice if you install the cam as it calls for on the spec sheet. I've ran the 11101 lunati cam (219/229@0.050" 505 lift i/e) in a F250 w/ 3.55 gears and it had plenty of bottom end. I pulled it a truck pulls...with the stock NP205 and also with other gearing alterations (borg warner 13-45 for 2.72:1 lower low range). The crane cam should be more efficient and powerfull with tighter LSA have marginally better low end than that lunati I ran (it had 114.5 LSA real broad and flat torque band) Sounds like you have a good plan to go with your xf conversion later down the road, and since you're running exhaust manifolds, I'm hoping you don't run into the hesitation issue that I had when I rand the 272 H10 Energizer grind years ago - cured it by finally installing headers.
The first thing I'd do is figure out why the cam went flat ? Right break in oil ? Anything in the valve train binding or was close to binding ? What was the piston to valve clearance ? How did you determine push rod length ? How much preload was on the lifters ? What rockers are you using ? How much clearance between the retainer and guide ? Coil bind ? etc and so on. If your not setting the valve train up right, then the roller may very well go down the drain as well.
