Hi all,
1990 F150 302.
I was doing a KOER tonight with a code reader I've had for a while.
At the beginning, it flashes how many cylinders are in test. I thought for sure this always said "8" before. First test I ran it said "4", next test said "6." The picture in the book shows "4", so I don't know what's up with that.
Codes came back with usual 44 and 33. No biggy.
I haven't been getting the mpg or power I like lately, so was running the test.
Engine ID codes are issued at the beginning of the Engine Running Self-Test and are one-digit numbers represented by the number of pulses sent out. For gasoline engines, the engine ID code is equal to one-half the number of engine cylinders (i.e. 2 pulses = 4 cylinders, 3 pulses = 6 cylinders, 4 pulses = 8 cylinders). For the 7.3L Diesel engine, the ID code = 5. These codes are used to verify the proper PCM is installed and that the Self-Test has been entered.
