Help with code readers

I just did a final code read on my 89 bronco ii, it was something my dad told me to do, even if the check engine light is on, as it would show me what is the next item that may cause me problems later, well once again I'm not sure if I'm reading these codes right; I got this with key on, engine off:

11, 11, 141, 141

Upon checking my Chillton manual, its stating something with the HEGO Sensor, & running lean, or that a HEGO is not detected. I just finished replacing my O2 Sensor with a new one since my old one was broken, is there anything else that could be assocaited to this cycle, that might be generating this code. or is it just that my code reading needs more practice!?

A BII is going to output 2 digit codes. I expect that code sequence should be interpreted as 11 11 1 41 41 where the 11 represents the KOEO codes, and the 41 is a CM code. The single pulse (1) is the separator pulse that separates KOEO and CM codes. Double check your interpretation of the codes to make sure this is right.

SOP when doing EEC-IV diagnostics is to resolve KOEO codes first. You're already getting pass codes here, so the next step is to run the KOER test and see what you get. Be sure to follow the instructions correctly and make sure the engine/O2 sensor are properly preheated before the KOER test so you don't get "false" codes.

If it passes the KOER test, the next thing I would do before resolving CM codes would be to clear the CM codes (disconnect anytime during KOEO/CM code output) and test drive it to see if the CM codes return.

Are you using one of the $30 Equus / Actron scanners or another method? Could be that you have misinterpreted the codes, as mrshorty said. Verify that the codes are in fact what you're reading. You can find the codes in the Tech Info/Read First thread at the top of this forum or on TRS here:http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...igitcodes.html

Re:Help with code readers

Thank you for the replies, I went out again an ran another test with the key on engine off, & got the same beep count as mentioned above; so I went to the next test you mentioned; key on engine running; after waiting for the temperature gauge to reach normal operating, I proceeded with the test & got the follwing beeps, if it reads as 2 digits;

3 1 77 74 77 74, I did this twice & got the same results.

I then went & did the key on engine off test again, but this time I interrupted it, I than reset the reader & turn the key off & then back on & ran the test again, & this time all I got were single beeps, with short pauses in between;

11 11 11 11 1, My last test will be to take it out on the road, But I'm thinking that since that code 41 isn't showing up I might be okay, I'm I right or am I wrong.

reply to code reader

Kernel panic, in response to your question, the code reader I'm using is the Innova 3143, I'm borrowing it from a friend of mine, its one of those red led lights with audio beeps to give you the numbers.

Ah, I have the one that has the LCD readout (I think it's the Equus or Actron, I forget). Much easier to use.

EDIT: This is the one I have (Equus/Innova 3145):

This is the one you have(?):

As far as the 77 & 74 codes, "Operator Error". If I remember right, you're supposed to step on the brake pedal, shift the steering side to side, and while sitting in the driver's seat floor the gas and let off (WOT test). It's hard to do as one person, BUT... if you rig up a connector extension to have the reader in-cab with you, makes it a lot easier.

I got that pic off this ad on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Equus-Innova-F.../dp/B0001ZUZY0

What auto parts stores do they have up there? Anything "American"? If not, that sucks because AutoZone, Advance/Shucks/Kragen, and NAPA I believe all carry the reader I have. Guess you could maybe order from Amazon.com, though... worth a try....
