I moved all the conversation about truckertrav's sender to its own thread, it's confusing when multiple people with the same problem all talk together in one thread.
Thanks Matt. So, what's the answer here? There has to be sender units that were made for the mechanical pump for a 19 gal steel tank. Maybe not for this year or make truck but they have to exist.
They do exist in the aftermarket, for older trucks. They have smaller "hats" the 85-86 are ******* children due the size of the hat on top of the sender assy. With the intro of EFI and electric pumps these years, they made manual senders with the large EFI size hat. If you were to put in a tank from say an 83-84, you could use one of the more readily available small hat senders.
Ok, so the senders I need are E5TZ-9275-H for the mid-ship steel tank with one tube and E5TZ-9275-C for the aft-axle steel tank with one tube. Bill, can you verify this?
Also, do you know what kind of electrical connection this has on the top? Specifically, do they have the 4-prong or 2-prong connector?
At least that's what I got from the charts Chris put up. Let me know if that is correct.
I wonder if you could use this one by just capping the unused tube. Might have to change the electrical connector on your truck's wiring harness, but the big unknown is the size of the "hat" as Matt calls it. IOW for what size hole in the tank is the thing designed....

If it is the same size, I wouldn't see why not. It would just be a fuel return that dumps just inside the hat.
It's rather odd. On Rock Auto's site, they list a fuel selector valve for the 1985 F350, but only list the mid-ship sending unit for an electric fuel pump...
Now, on the 1984 trucks on Rock Auto's site they list what appears to be the correct fuel sending units for both mid-ships and aft-axle tanks... *sigh*
The first replaces OEM part number E0TZ 9275-G which according to Chris' chart is for an '84 truck and the second part replaces E0TZ 9275-A also for an '84 truck.
I'm guessing these would work. I wonder, if this was built in Canada they used parts for the '84 trucks but it was built in '85. I don't know if this makes sense or not, but it's the only thing I can think of.
Both of those have the small ~2" head, and not the larger 3 5/8". Canadian trucks got the same parts as US built trucks, they had to be certified for both countries.

Look more closely at the catalog, both of these parts are for 1980/84 trucks. This precedes EFI, smaller holes in the tanks were used at that time.

Both are incorrect.
E5TZ-9275-H = F150/250 all 6 & 8 cylinder / E5TZ-9275-C = gas except 460.
Chris, Gary and I are using original FoMoCo information from the truck catalog. The Summit, Rock Auto, Dorman and etc senders may be "universal fitz-alls."

This makes me think they can no longer source the parts for an electric pump in the rear tank for that year (1985). IOW there aren't any suppliers of this part anymore, or maybe aren't any that Rock is willing to deal with might be a better description.
Might call up Rock and see what they say.
I think somebody mentioned this already, but you could always purchase a tank with the smaller, 2" hole and use a more readily-available sending unit with it.

Which POS do they list, the 3 ported valve or the 6 ported valve?
Both of these valves were TERDS from day one and still are today. Both are still available from Ford because both sell like hotcakes, because every day, peeps are replacing both every day!

They list both a 3-port valve and 6-port valve from AIRTEX/WELLS. What do you recommend in case the valve goes bad (like everything else on this truck it seems...)
