i swapped in a tild cruise column in my 89 f350 from a bronco i think i hooked the wires to the pad up backwards because when i hit on on cruise it honks the horn now. hahaha i dont have the rest of the cruise hooked up yet. and the horn pad doesnt honk anything. i was getting a kick out of it today honking with the on button.
So what is the verdict? Can XL trucks be converted with what is stock and do we need a master cylinder swap or do we just use a jumper? Also, How is the new throttle linkage configured? Mine is now going right through the firewall.
My truck is a '96 XL and it came with the wiring that it needed. So I don't believe your truck would need a harness.
You don't need the master unless you want the redundant off switch. The clutch and brake pedal switch (separate from the one under the hood) shut it off without the one on the master just fine.
I used a SPOUT plug to jumper the plug that is supposed to be hooked to the pressure switch on the master. So for now I would grab one of those.
Info for brake booster but does this apply to automatics also?
You will need the pressure switch off a master cylinder to plug into your wiring. Cruise with automatic has two switches one is already there from the factory the other is the pressure switch in the Maxter cylinder. I would for the short time just take one off a JY truck and plug it into your wiring harness. The other is the brake light switch which all vehicles already come with so you have one already in place. If you have a standard you will ned the clutch switch or be careful leaving that one out since pressing the clutch can and most likely would rev the crp out of your motor.

I don't see why not. One thing we haven't mentioned is the clock spring. I haven't pulled my steering wheel yet so I can't confirm. Here is a recent thread on the topic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...need-help.html
The throttle linkage remains unchanged. The servo will have a cable that simply snaps on next to it.

Just just finished doing this conversion on my 94 XL that came with no tilt non cruise. All the wiring is there from factory, it's not a different harness then trucks that had these options from factory. You just need to swap out the no tilt non cruise wheel/column to a cruise tilt wheel and column, hook up servo and throttle linkage connect harness on side of engine compartment to servo and add a spout connector to the harness by the fuse box in the engine compartment above. You do not need to swap out master cylinder if you do this. 2 things though. Do not try to take servo off of its bracket. Patiently work a torx driver around to inspect the junkyard servo aa screws will brake of strip out and also grab a spout connector from the junkyard truck or order it from CJ Pony ($10)pictured above, as local auto parts do not carry it instead of swapping master cylinder. Simple project with some patients and minimal mechanical ability as I have.

Others have said you can just swap the horn pad for one with cruise control buttons... are you certain that the whole steering column needed to be replaced? Thanks!
The entire column does not need to be replaced. I just did this swap on my '94. It's an XL model that did not have cruise or tilt column. All I had to was get a cruise equipped steering wheel and swapped out my air bag into the cruise wheel. It still has the original non-tilt column as before.

So do you need to replace the whole wheel, or just the center portion with the cruise control buttons? Going to have to scour the PAP...
The whole wheel, but not the column. Yours has an airbag, right? Just swap in your old bag into a cruise wheel. The buttons are integrated into the cruise wheel, so you cant swap the cruise buttons into a non-cruise wheel.
I have also read from multiple sources that the non tilt columns are the same as tilt columns with the exception of a few missing pieces. Might be worth checking in to.
