3 speed shifter diagram

I'm in need of a column shifter diagram or pics of how they are put together. I am currently swapping my 3 speed for a T-5 in my '52 F-1....I want to remove the column shifter without destroying it if possible.
How is the upper collar held onto the column? Press fit? spot welds?
Thanks.

Ross wrote an excellent article on rebuilding the shift linkage. It would show you everything you need to know. I think it may be on the flathead site in the techno pages.

The seat that the column shifter linkage bears against, at the top of the steering column, appears to me to be spot welded on. If you can get a floor shift steering column it would be easy to swap out the tubes. I'm not sure the seat would be that visible if you took off the shifter tube, tho.

There's an exploded view in the parts catalog. I can copy it and email it to you tomorrow if you think it'll help. PM me your email address if you want it.

After re-reading the article and further study, I think I have it figured out. I was most concerned about the upper pivot point. Thanks for the offer though!

I used Ross's column shifter shaft rebuild method and shortened the shaft at the same time to accommodate a taller Toyota power steering box. Now I have cut and bent the two shifter arms to re-gain clearance against the floor board. The two arms I cut are hardened steel. I need advice on how to properly MIG weld them back together. Do any of you guys know about welding hardened steel?

Are you sure they are steel? They looked like cast malleable iron to me.

Ross I think they are some sort of cast material. I'm not versed on steel/ iron types. I know a hack saw would only make one of the cuts at the outer end of the longer arm at the bend. The hack saw wouldn't touch any of the other 3 places I made cuts. Had to use a die grinder with a cut off wheel. Basically I have straightened the arms and then slightly shortened them to retain the original radius from the shifter shaft. I'm I in trouble?
