Hey, I am new to this truck stuff, I have a 78 f100 with a column shifter and wondering if it is possible to switch outt he linkage so I can shift from a floor shifter. With the column it takes forever to change gears and I don't like that. Any advice would be much appreciated.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Mar-02 AT 05:42 PM (EST)]Floor shifter can be installed easily.Go for the higher quality, those $40 dollar jobs wont shift.Your column can also be rebuilt for about the same $ as a quality shifter.Brian
I put in a floor shifter in my '79 F100 around 1987 after the column shifter couldn't take any more punishment. It took an afternoon to do with the help of my brother. You will need to make sure to get it in the right position when you cut out the floor board. I sometimes which I had the column back when I have three people in the truck.[/p]
If you decide to transfer to the floor, be sure to buy a quality shifter. Good luck[/p]
