I just dropped a 01 motor in my truck. The motor was rebuilt by a local shop and then the owner wrecked his truck over the winter. put a bout 20-25 miles on the truck purging the air out of the rails.
THe problem I am having is it is puffing white smoke out the exhaust. The motor will bog down just a tiny bit puff a bit of white smoke out and be fine for another 5 seconds then do it again. There is oil dripping out of the v-band at the turbo exhaust\dp connection. CCV is open (vented to atmosphere) steady stream of smoke(no different than my other motor) I did a compression test on this motor before I dropped it in and on the stand\cold it was 360-390.
Turbo is new (d-66) Injectors are fresh rebuilts.
my 96 blew a gasket and it caused it to smoke like your CCV but out of the oil cap, and it would smoke a steady stream of blue out of the tail pipe.. atleast I think it was a gasket or a ring broke on the piston and cut a grove in my block lol
The turbo is brand new--ran for about 50 miles on my old motor with out a problem. The motor\truck had 114,000 miles on it when the original owner told me he had a smoking problem from the truck. A local mechanic used a ford master kit from pure diesel power to overhaul the motor, installed arps, 910's, pushrods and a new oil pan. the block was not machined--stock pistons were used. owner said he ran it with some single shots II's and a 38r with no problems till he lost it on some ice and wrapped the passenger side around a pole.
would the comp numbers still be that high (360-390 on a cold motor) with a blown HG?
You'd see lower numbers with a head gasket out, and you'd more than likely have water either in the exhaust or in the oil.
I understand you have a new turbo, but it should not be leaking oil into the downpipe. That's gotta be the reason for the smoke, but now why is it dripping is the question I'm not sure how to answer..
my understanding was new pistons and rings. I'm going to losen the uppipes and see if I get oil comeing out of the manifolds. I'm going to go ahead and run it to work tomorrow(around 60 miles round trip) to see If it is eating oil or coolant or anything mixing.
