MY 86 F150 HAS A 300 SIX, WHEN IT IS JUST STARTED
WHILE ITS COLD I REV THE MOTOR UP TO ABOUT 3000 RPMS, WHEN I LET OFF I GET A CLOUD OF BLUE SMOKE,
AFTER THE MOTOR RUNS A WHILE I REV IT UP AGAIN AND LET OF IT DOESNT SMOKE, THE MOTOR HAS NORMAL COMPRESSION ON ALL SIX, IT DOESNT KNOCK, IT HAS
PLENTY OF POWER, THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF OIL CONSUMPTION, ON THE SPARK PLUGS, AND THE EXHAUST DOESNT SMELL LIKE BURNING OIL. WHAT MAY BE THE THE PROBLEM? IT IS RUNNING A LITTLE RICH THOUGH, MAY A MOTOR RUNNING RICH PRODUCE ALSO PRODUCE BLUE SMOKE BESIDES BLACK SMOKE?
My opinion is that the vavle stem seals are the cause of the blue smoke when you first start the engine . Over night oil leaks past the seals and when you start it up the next morning that oil gets burned thus causing the blue smoke . They arent too hard to change ...just a time consuming job . As long as the engine runs fine otherwise and you can live with a little smoke I wouldnt worry about it too much . Sooner or later they will have to be changed .
