My 72 is a hardboard material. If you make your own, and put padding on it, leave a thin area in the padding for the window crank and the armrest/latch assembly. Thick jute padding really cuts down on noise.
There is a vinyl covering over the press-board. You might want to buy a package of new fasteners, they tend to get damaged.
Base was metal and Ranger package had either metal with trim covering the screws or padded hardboard. At least that's the versions I've seen come through my shop.
What year do you have? 68 non-ranger trucks has metal and ranger has plastic with chrome accents with the metal trim holding it to the door. The repo plastic door panels do not have the chrome accents.
Only the '67 is the oddball version with the pull handle/lock. All the others would interchange.
The low level door panels were just the metal covers. The upgraded version had plastic panel covering the metal with trim going around it.
Like mentioned, I took some matching vinyl and 1/2" foam and covered the plastic panel with it. Makes for a nice, custom looking panel(cheap to do). I did the same with the dash pad.
