I have a 2011 FX4 5.0 with 3.73s. I just wanted to ask my fellow owners here if the shake is typical. It happens when I hit almost any uneven pavement, and if it hits a good enough bump the whole truck vibrates. You can look in the rearview and see the bed shaking all over the place when this happens. I have owned an extended cab 1998 pickup before and did not notice any of this.
Truck rides good other than this, which several people that have rode with me have noticed it feels like it is vibrating through the frame when it hits a bump.
Edit- just to give a better description. It feels like any old truck used to when you were driving on a dirt road and hit a really good washboard. Shakes your head, lol. But this is over any bump.
These trucks are very sensative when empty, and the beds are a bit bouncy, but this is exagerated greatly by the vibration of the mirror itself. They have been this way since 04 when they went to this fully welded frame, the old frames used to flex and absorb, but these frames are strong and ridgid. Keep an eye on other f150's out there and you will see it is not as drastic as the mirror makes it seem. Next one you see pull in behind him and ride for a while.
Is this sorta the same problem the tundras have/had? I know people were bolting down a steel plate in the bed to keep their tundras from rattling their teeth loose. Like I said it is not an issue that makes me unhappy with my truck I was just expecting a little better of a ride. I guess it did not help that I went from a Lexus IS250 to this truck because the lexus rode like a dream. I plan on putting a shell on it and then I will probably keep a fairly large box in the back for tools and winter weather stuff since I am moving to alaska. Maybe that will help put some weight on it. I do notice it seems to do it less with a full tank of gas, and when I pulled my side by side it rode like a hovercraft.
Some bed shaking is normal on all of the newer pickups, but it's not anywhere near what a Tundra has. If you feel it becomes a problem, take it to the dealer's service dept. to have it looked at.
