I was wondering where I could get a gas cap that is just paintable metal. I just like the body color look rather than the crome or lockable caps. I looked at the three suppliers catalogs I have and locally at NAPA. The local Ford dealer says they cannot even look up anthing that old.

Local Ford Dealer is a LIAR! If I can look the parts up, so can they, all one needs is the parts catalog.
The thing is, most dealers don't want to bother with older vehicles, so the second you mention the year, they come up with an excuse like this...to just shine you on.
8A-9030-A, the original primered fuel cap (fuel caps painted body colors not available) used on 1949/51 Ford/Merc Station Wagons & 1948/72 F Series trucks (except 1970/72's with Evap/Em) was replaced by B6TZ-9030-A which is stainless.
Make SURE you buy a vented fuel cap. The in-cab tank is not vented, so if you install a non-vented fuel cap, the fuel tank could burst open or collapse!

Ford still has those in their dealers? I know when I went to the local Mopar dealer, for the Dodge, they no longer had anything except their computer. If I could tell him a number he could look it up but had no books to do it the old way.
