Oddball Gas Cap

Have a 69-72 amalgamation Ford Truck. It originally had a behind-the-seat tank. However, someone installed frame mounted tanks on each side. They have access holes in the bed with square chrome aftermarket RV-style doors.. Well, I don’t think they were stock. Anyway, I’ve looked high and low for the right caps (even read most threads with gas cap in title).. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I used to have one of these caps; now I need both of them. The cap is real small. The O.D. on the filler neck is 1-3/4”.. The cap looked identical to those on the late 70’s long beds with the square access doors – just quite a bit smaller. <o></o>
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.. I’ve checked Slant, NAPA, and a host of other auto parts suppliers – to no avail. <o></o>
The door is actually shown in the first pic of my old gallery…if it’s viewable. Though I need to update as truck has been painted and nearly completed..<o></o>

Hard to say what someone has added to his truck along the way. I suspect that instead of trying da big dummys way with a part number you might have to use trial and error until you find one that fits. If the truck is drivable take it to tp the parts house and tell the counter dummy that you need to find a cap that will fit and want to try some on.

Ford NEVER offered a fuel tank as a dealer installed accessory, all were factory installed.

Out here in LA LA Land, the Fey Bumper Company offered all sorts of single and saddle tanks for these trucks.

Dealers sent trucks to Fey for the installation, as did places that sold Campers.

Some fuel caps were behind doors, some were exposed.

I looked thru every Ford parts catalog when I first read this post.

There is NO Ford fuel cap from a truck...or car, that matches the criteria.
