Alright guys, really bummed hear. Been reading everything on this topic, and not real sure about where to begin, besides buying a new pump, o-rings for injectors, and HOPE TO GOD, its not a front cover.
Undid the anti drain valv,e which the pumps' in its way, so could not remove from location, but did loosen ur up. Not sure what i was hoping that would do, but...Next thing, what, besides the hpop, can i replace that can be the source of problem..gasket/s, some "tube" insdie reservoir...Finally, o-rings on injectors. When i removed the fuel filter today for replacing anyway, i noticed it was dark. Not sure if some of the 2-stroke i've added to fuel, can cause it, or if leak-down from HPOP causing the discolor. However, there is no smoke at start-up, driving, shutting down...etc, no smoke at all.
Truck doesnt seem to lack power, its just lacking the quick start-up it had. Level in HPOP after sit'n awhile, probably 1-1/2 - 2in from top. Top it off, fires up within a 1/2 sec. Doesnt die when fired up or run'n....Try'n to cover EVERYTHING for any direction to help with input. Thanks guys.
I'm going to say the 2 stroke discolored your filter but also a fuel source can do that. I keep the same place for fueling but during this past winter I strayed a bit to other stations and I noticed my last filter change was a bit darker, alot darker for just a 15,000 change. I can normally go about 20,000 on a filter change so. An early bump for your other questions, good luck.
There's only one place where oil can get into your fuel, and that's at the injectors. I'd run the truck for a while then take a sample from the tank and see if it's got oil in it. As far as the HPOP, if the reservoir isn't holding, and there are no external leaks, it's got to be at the drain back valve. I can't think of another place to look.
Thanks Izzy and Mike.. I'm down for replacing the drain valv,e but how the heck is that performed without removing the bowl and/or hpop itself. I loosened it up enough for it to become dislodged from its housing, but seems no way to snorkel it from those items, let alone install it in there if i can. They seemed to only be 15-20 buks, i'll get one tomorrow.
What comes to mind, is when i purchased the truck (7/09), i remember the oil tube being a tad loose, tightened it up, but wasnt satisified. So, removing it, i realized the o-ring at bottom of it, was pinched off, about 1/4-1/2in of it, missing. I wonder if now, its showing its face somewhere....Onced fired, truck runs awesome, just that damn lagging start up..(12-ish volts while cranking).
Also, b.s-ing with wife, i mentioned that, problem seemed to arise, now that i've been parking in driveway, nose first. Which has an incline. I've ALWAYS parked **** first, since theres always stuff in bed. Coincidence or any truth to nose-uphill will help to drain hpop
If it were me, I'd go ahead and pull the HPOP and get an O-ring kit for it and the filter bowl from Guzzle. If it isn't leaking yet, it probably will when you start messing with it. Get the fuel sleeves too for all the fuel line connections up there. If those haven't been replaced, they're likely pretty degraded as well. Then you can easily get to the valve and have a nice refreshed HPOP & fuel bowl. You might get the "non-servicelable" plug kit as well, just since you're there and is an easy fix while the pump is out.
Yup...made the "wish list" til next checky. Didnt think of non-servicable plug, but have done the fuel bowl already, but the ones off the bowl(fuel outlet) have been over a year + since re-sleeved.
Funny thing, yesterday morning, when leaving. Wernt out, cycled glowplugs til light went off, parked nose first in driveway, and BAM,fired off within 1/2sec. Either way, its 13yrs old, 140k, i think the gaskets served me well.
