Truck dies while driving

I have a 2000 F250 with a 7.3 while driving the engine just shuts off. The first time it happened a week and a half ago I was pulling a 33' camper in the mountains of NC. It continues to hav this problem even without towing the camper. I replaced the fuel filter the old one did not look clogged up. I replaced the cam sensor with one from advance auto parts since the for dealership was not open on sunday. The problem continued to occur. I have since replaced that cam sensor with one from Ford. But still has not corrected the problem. The truck will run for 12-75 miles before it shuts down. It has quit within 16 miles from the house after sitting all night it takes about 35 min after it shuts down before it will crank back. It spins strong with new batteries put in a couple months ago. If I drain the fuel bowl and turn on the switch it fills the bowl back up very quickly so it is pumping fuel to there. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Sittin on the side of the road

Thanks in advance for all your knowledge and help.

Craig

Fuel isn't what usually kills these things, oil does. How's your oil level?

Changed the oil before the trip to mtns. It's still full. I have checked it several times and it's still the same level on the full mark.

It cranks but it won't turn over, I take it. Any warning lights? Symptoms before it dies?

Most of the time no signs just dies sometimes it's like it coughs the dies a short time later. No lights are on none show up before it quits.

I changed the oil myself used motor craft diesel and motor craft oil filter. Truck has 195,000 miles I've owned it since 94,000. I have always changed the oil myself and and always used motor craft. The hi psi oil pinm was replaced at ford dealership less than 25,000 miles ago.

I had it programmed with a superchips tuner to the middle tow setting. I have returned it to stock. I used the tuner to check the codes and it said no codes present.

I'm running low on simple things to check... others may be more helpful until codes are pulled in some way. Do you have a scanner or AE at your disposal?

I'd start by removing the chip. Not sure how the superchips tuner works but if it's like the DP (with a dongle) check your cable. A bad connection on mine keeps killing my truck every time I move it. I've had a new cable sitting in the truck for almost a month now but I've been too lazy to replace it.

I have removed the program I removed it the third time it shut off. It has quit a couple dozen times since then.

Don't think that the Super Chip programmer would cause this problem. I would think that you should be able to pull some kind of code with the SC tuner??? Does it 'shut down' like the key was shut off or a 'bog down' starving of fuel. If it shuts down like the key is hit, check all of the wiring around the CPS for a short or being not fully plugged. Also if moisture gets into the CPS that will cause it to 'shut down'. But it should (always did for me) start right back up if it is the CPS itself that get a voltage interruption and shuts the truck down.
