What a heartbreak!

What a heartbreak! With the help of my son, Just finished doing the EGR cooler, oil cooler and cleaned up the turbo with a new unison ring in my driveway. Hoping it was enough. The motor fired up, once the high pressure system charged up. Sounded good.

Then the disappointment!! Filled up the overflow bottle. Then coolant started to leak out the back of the engine on the passanger side and the engine wasn't even running or hot.

I am going to assume head gasket...unless someone has another idea.

History: A lot of while smoke coming out the tail pipe, before the repair, especially when cold. Did an underwater pressure test of the old EGR cooler and it bubbled, not a lot, but bubbled. No milkshake underneath the oil cooler. Unison ring was seized in the housing but the actuator arm was un-damaged. 2004 F250, later build with the square EGR cooler. 180,000 km (approx 113,000 mi).

The BIG questions. Can I do head gaskets in the truck??? Questions that I am worried about:

01. Can I clean the block good enough while it is in the truck? Will I need a machine shop to "deck" the short
block?

02. Can I torque the heads properly while it is in the truck? I would hate to do all this work if I could not do it
properly.

Thanks to everyone, could have not gone this far without everyones' help.

What about the Little Hose that goes from oil cooler to the EGR Cooler is it leaking there??

How about the Heater supply hose on passenger side runs along the Top Pass.Valve cover

So headgaskets dont normaly leak like that

I'm with bismic and BLADE35. You have likely not properly secured the oil cooler outlet-to-EGR cooler inlet rubber hose, by what you describe. If it's any consolation, you would be far from the first one to have made this rookie mistake if it is case. When securing that rubber hose, it needs to be pulled all the way to the oil cooler outlet housing until it completely bottoms out, and then rotated in either direction until it stops and engages the lock tabs. Have a look with a flashlight under that hose to confirm that this is the source of your coolant leak. If it is, simply remove the hot side CAC pipe and get yourself a pair of curved LONG needle-nosed pliers ("booger picker" type) to pull that hose into proper position to repair your issue.

I would think if you had a headgasket leaking water like that youd have a miss in the engine, or it'd be blowing out the degas bottle. Was it leaking like this before the repair?, if not then its something you did during the repair.I think the gentlemen that posted before me are right on target with this one.

I thought about the EGR hose to oil cooler. There does not seem to be any fluid in the valley, but I will double check tomorrow.

The new hose was pulled on the oil cooler, rotated and then checked that it would not pull off before any other reassembly by both my son and myself.

I hope its a rookie mistake.

You guys are the BEST. It was the hose connecting the EGR to oil cooler. Didn't have the "booger picker" pliers but a pair of vise grips with the slightly curved jaw, openned up just enough but not too much and a screw driver against the turbo pedistal made it easy to move the hose assembly. No leak! Made my day. Since I can't buy you a coffee I will go and buy one for my friend in your honour. Thanks again.
